It has been observed in the recent years that the construction sector has been performing exceptionally well for 10 years and its performance is marvelous when we study the statistics of the last five years when this industry experienced a real boom. It is due to the policy of the government of Pakistan as there are numerous public sector construction projects which have been completed or going to be completed in the coming years.
Along with the initiatives taken by the governments, the private sector is also taking interest in developing and constructing new projects and developments. The combined efforts of public and private sectors have made this sector one of the most significant industries in Pakistan. The overall performance of construction sector has been recorded above the expected percentages in the financial years of 2015 and 2016.
When we consider the situation of construction sector in the last three years, we found that the progress is marvelous in the provinces of Punjab and KPK where good projects were inaugurated and completed. Some of the big projects which can be mentioned are metro bus project in Rawalpindi, new international airport in Islamabad, orange line train and greater Iqbal Park in Lahore, Islamabad Havelian motorway in KPK, Sahiwal coal project, Quaid-e-Azam solar park in Islamabad and many small and large projects started by the provincial governments of both the provinces.
There are numerous residential and commercial projects as well, which have been developed by the private sector in these provinces as well. Some good projects are also in plan under the umbrella of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor as well, which are planned in these provinces so we can say that the performance of Punjab and KPK is good.
On the other hand, Sindh is behind in this constructive competition. Karachi is the capital of Sindh and the economic hub of Pakistan. This city has been the central point of development and the inspirational city for the citizens of all other cities, but the recent history of this city is not good.
There are great issues of law and order, transportation, road infrastructure, energy and uncertainty due to which the results are not up to the mark. The green line bus project, Bahria Town, Karachi-Hyderabad motorway and Bin Qasim thermal project are the only projects which can be highlighted so there is a great need of encouragement by the governments for the construction sector.
Balochistan is a province which has been neglected in last six decades, but now, CPEC and Gwadar seaport has opened new horizons for the province and now the business owners have found great potential in this province. It is hoped that Balochistan will get many developments, residential and commercial projects and road infrastructure which will create opportunities for the people of this province in the coming years.
All this study tells us the story of construction development in the country and from this study, we can say that there is a great potential in this industry in Pakistan. It means that investment options are available so if you are a construction company and want to invest, you will find this country a heaven on this earth.
